A white dress code is the simplest way to make a party whole. The guests come in one palette, the decor and the light pick it up, and every frame the photographer shoots looks like a magazine shoot. We held this birthday at a private villa in Phuket: a pool, a DJ, a bar and no strangers.

A birthday on the island almost always comes down to logistics: find a villa where loud music is allowed after ten, bring the sound and the light, set up the bar, book the artists and take it all away by morning. We close the whole chain — the birthday person only has to greet the guests.

The format works well for 15–60 people. More guests — we move to a beach club or a hotel; fewer — we do an intimate dinner with live music.

Equipment hire, catering and a mobile bar

We bring our own equipment to a birthday: a JBL sound system, speakers and a subwoofer for the size of the villa, radio microphones for the toasts, a Pioneer DJ mixer, lighting fixtures and a smoke machine. Sound and lighting equipment hire in Phuket is available as a separate service too — with delivery, setup and a technician who keeps the sound going all evening.

Catering and a mobile bar we close turnkey: a chef, waiters, bartenders and signature cocktails, a cake and a welcome area. The decorations — balloons, fabrics, flowers, light-up letters and a photo zone — are chosen for the white palette, so the villa and the guests look like one picture.
