Planning a wedding in Phuket from abroad
Almost every wedding we produce is booked by a couple who are somewhere else — a different country, a different time zone, often having never stood on the beach they are choosing. What follows is the practical detail that usually decides how the day goes, written from running these since 2013.
Choosing between beach, villa, yacht and island
- Beach. The photographs everyone wants. The trade-offs are wind and sound — an open shoreline swallows an unamplified voice, and the tide dictates your ceremony time, not your schedule. Public beaches also mean strangers in the background of your shots; a hotel-controlled stretch avoids that.
- Private villa. The most controllable option and usually the best value for 30–80 guests. You get the pool as a backdrop, a defined space for the party afterwards, and no curfew negotiation with a hotel's other guests. Power capacity is the thing to check before booking — many villas cannot carry full sound and lighting without a generator.
- Yacht. Works beautifully for 10–40 guests and a sunset ceremony. Everything must be planned to the minute because you cannot add anything once you leave the pier, and rough sea in the monsoon months can cancel a charter on the day.
- Private island or hotel lawn. The right answer above roughly 100 guests, when catering, restrooms and guest transport stop being solvable at a villa.
When to hold it
November to April is the dry season and the reason most Phuket weddings happen then — reliable sunsets, calm sea, comfortable evenings. It is also when venues and vendors book out six to twelve months ahead.
May to October is the green season. Rain typically comes in short heavy bursts rather than all day, prices are markedly lower, and the island is quieter. It is a real option if you plan a covered fallback for the ceremony and accept that a yacht day may move.
Legal versus symbolic ceremony
Most couples hold a symbolic ceremony in Phuket — the one with the vows, the aisle and the photographs — and complete the legal registration at home. A legally binding Thai marriage is possible but runs through your embassy and the district office with document translation and legalisation, and it takes working days that most couples would rather spend on the island. Beach wedding in Phuket
The format most couples picture first. We work the west-coast beaches for the sunset — Nai Thon, Layan, Naiharn and the quieter northern stretches — where the light lands behind the couple rather than in the guests' eyes. From 10,000 THB for the venue. Two things nobody mentions until it is too late: public beaches cannot be closed off, so a Saturday afternoon in high season means strangers in the background of your photographs, and sound is limited — we bring a battery-powered system rather than a generator so the vows are audible without a cable run across the sand.
Villa wedding in Phuket
A private villa buys you what a beach cannot: control. Nobody walks through the ceremony, the party can run past sunset, and getting ready, the ceremony, dinner and dancing all happen in one place, so there is no transport between them. From 15,000 THB for the venue. Watch the contract: most Phuket villas carry an outdoor music curfew around 22:00 and an event fee separate from the nightly rate, and plenty of listings say "events allowed" when they mean a dinner. We confirm both in writing before you book.
Island wedding
A ceremony on an island off Phuket — a boat out in the morning, vows on an empty beach, lunch on board, back by evening. From 30,000 THB. The genuinely private option, and the one most dependent on weather: between May and October we hold a backup date and a mainland alternative, because the decision is made by the sea, not by us.
Yacht wedding
Vows on deck, a charter from Chalong Pier, Coral Island and the sunset at Promthep Cape. From 69,000 THB including the boat. Suits small groups — twenty guests on a yacht feels intimate, forty feels like a commute. Open flame and pyrotechnics are not permitted on board; cold sparks and CO2 usually are, depending on the operator.
Rooftop wedding
Sea view from 10,000 THB, city view from 35,000 THB. The strongest option in the rainy season, because a rooftop with cover keeps the view and loses the risk. Wind is the real constraint — light fabric decor and tall floral structures do not survive an exposed rooftop, so we design low and weighted.
Restaurant and seaside venue
Seaside restaurants from 15,000 THB, indoor restaurants from 25,000 THB, a private beach attached to a restaurant from 25,000 THB. The practical choice when the guest list runs past forty and you want a kitchen on site rather than catering trucked in.
Thai ceremony and symbolic ceremony
