# Island wedding in Phuket — prices, islands, planning

Source: https://www.doubledproject.com/en/services/island-wedding-phuket

A turnkey island wedding in Phuket: choosing the island, the boat, an arch on the sand, catering, sound and light from a generator, a photographer.

A ceremony on an uninhabited beach an hour's sail from Phuket: a boat from the pier, an [arch on the sand](https://www.doubledproject.com/en/catalogue/product/wedding-ark), a [wedding](https://www.doubledproject.com/en/services/wedding) lunch on the shore, [sound](https://www.doubledproject.com/en/catalogue/sound) and light from a [generator](https://www.doubledproject.com/en/catalogue/product/generator), a photographer and the return at sunset. The venue from 30,000 ฿, minimum order 15,000 ฿. Double D Project has worked in Phuket since 2013.

An island wedding is the only format in Phuket where you can truly be alone with your guests and no strangers. On Phuket's beaches it is impossible: all of them are public and there are always people near. On a rented island or in a closed bay — it is. The price is logistics: all the equipment, food, water, the generator, the toilet and the [staff](https://www.doubledproject.com/en/catalogue/staff) arrive by boat and leave by the same boat, and the weather has a vote.

**Minimum order 15,000 ฿.** The boat or speedboat charter is counted separately and depends on the island, the number of guests and the time at sea. We pick the vessel for the group and give an exact figure once the date, the island and the head count are known — an «average» price named in advance is always wrong here.

## Where we take weddings: the islands near Phuket

### Coral Island (Koh Hey) — an island wedding 20 minutes from Phuket

The quickest option: 15–20 minutes by speedboat from [Chalong Pier](https://www.doubledproject.com/en/locations/chalong-pier). White sand, calm water, room for an arch and a lunch table. Right when there are many guests and half of them are not up to an hour at sea. The minus — the island is popular: day trips are there until 16:00, so we set the ceremony towards evening, when the boats leave.

### Racha Yai — clear water and a frame without people

An hour's sail south. The water is noticeably clearer than off Phuket, the bays are deep, and the backdrop for the photographer is the best available in one day. The format: out in the morning, the ceremony in the afternoon or at sunset, back in the evening. It needs decent weather, so from May to October we hold a reserve date.

### Koh Yao Noi and Koh Yao Yai — quiet islands in Phang Nga Bay

The eastern direction; the water in the bay is calmer than the Andaman even in the rainy season. Fewer tourists, more seclusion, and there are venues on the shore with access to water and electricity — a rarity for islands. A good compromise between a wild bay and an organised venue.

### Maiton (Koh Mai Thon) — a private bay

A small island between Phuket and Coral Island, 30–40 minutes' sail. Known for the dolphins regularly met nearby. Right for a small ceremony of 10–20 people when privacy is the point.

### James Bond and the Phang Nga cliffs — a ceremony with a view of the karsts

Thailand's most recognisable scenery: sheer limestone cliffs straight out of the water. The format is usually a trip — the ceremony on board or on a sand spit; there is nowhere to set a full banquet here. Taken for the picture, not for the feast.

### A wild bay with no name

If the brief is «nobody at all», we pick a nameless bay along the boat's route and [stage](https://www.doubledproject.com/en/services/stage-rental-phuket) the ceremony there. It is the most honest version of a «wedding on an uninhabited island»: no infrastructure, everything brought and taken away, but the frame is truly yours.

## How it all gets to the island

### Speedboat — fast and for large groups

The standard solution: a speedboat collects the guests at [Chalong](https://www.doubledproject.com/en/locations/rawai-chalong), [Ao Po](https://www.doubledproject.com/en/locations/ao-po) or Rawai pier and goes straight to the island. Fast, but in a swell it shakes noticeably — if there are elderly guests or children, we warn in advance and offer another class of vessel.

### Yacht — when the journey is part of the celebration

Slower and softer, with lunch on board and a swim on the way. Often an island wedding is built around a yacht: the ceremony on the shore, the banquet on deck. Prices and routes are on the [yacht wedding](https://www.doubledproject.com/en/services/yacht-wedding-phuket) page: [Y1](https://www.doubledproject.com/en/locations/yacht-y1-chalong-pier) from 69,000 ฿ for up to 10 guests, [Y5](https://www.doubledproject.com/en/locations/yacht-y5-chalong-pier) from 89,000 ฿ for up to 25.

### Longtail boat — for a small ceremony

A traditional longtail takes 6–8 people and suits a symbolic ceremony for two or with a couple of witnesses. Cheap and atmospheric, but the most dependent of all on the swell.

### A separate boat for the gear

Sound, light, the generator, the arch, tables, ice and the catering go on a separate trip several hours before the guests — otherwise the guests and the unloading meet on the site at once. This goes into the quote from the start, not on the day.

## What to know before you pay for it

### The weather decides, not we

From May to October there are days on the Andaman Sea when the port authority closes boat departures. It is not an insurance case and not anyone's fault. So we always plan an island wedding with a reserve date and a reserve venue on the shore — a beach or a [restaurant](https://www.doubledproject.com/en/locations/restaurants) by the sea it can move to within a few hours. If that plan is not agreed in advance, it will not appear.

### There is no electricity or toilet on the island

No wild beach has a socket. Sound, light, the fridge, the photographer's gear — everything runs off a 5,500 W generator (10,000 ฿). The toilet is a mobile cabin, or an island that has infrastructure. This is the first thing we check when choosing the venue.

### National parks and permits

Some islands around Phuket are in marine national parks: there is an entry fee per person, visiting hours, and an event needs clearance. Some parks close for the whole season. We check the status of the particular island for your date before anything is booked.

### A symbolic ceremony has no legal force

An island ceremony is symbolic. Legal registration in Thailand happens at the amphur with documents legalised through the embassy and the foreign ministry, and has nothing to do with a beach or an island. Most couples register at home and hold a beautiful ceremony here — that is fine, but better known in advance.

### The light goes fast

At Phuket's latitude there is almost no dusk: sunset around 18:20 in December, around 18:50 in June, and half an hour later it is dark. The crossing back in the dark is safe, but there is nothing left to photograph. We set the ceremony on the island 60–90 minutes before sunset, and the banquet is under our light.

## Example quote: 20 guests, an island, a ceremony at sunset

| Item | Calculation | ฿ |
| --- | --- | --- |
| Venue — an island | arranging | 30,000 |
| Catering, wedding menu | 20 × 2,500 | 50,000 |
| Decor: the arch, the aisle, chairs, fabric | 4 elements × 2,500 | 10,000 |
| Sound and light set | 1 | 3,500 |
| 5,500 W generator | with fuel | 10,000 |
| Photographer | 5 hours × 5,000 | 25,000 |
| Bento cake | 1 | 3,500 |
| Staff at the venue | 3 people × 6 h × 1,000 | 18,000 |
| Equipment delivery | truck to the pier | 5,000 |
| Total without the vessel | | 155,000 |

The boat charter comes on top and depends on the island and the group. Almost everything can be dropped: without a [videographer](https://www.doubledproject.com/en/services/videographer-phuket) and [live music](https://www.doubledproject.com/en/services/cover-band-phuket), with lighter [decor](https://www.doubledproject.com/en/catalogue/decorations) and a lunch instead of a banquet, an island ceremony for 10 comes out noticeably cheaper. We count from what matters to you, not from a «package».

## Frequently asked questions about an island wedding in Phuket
**How much does an island wedding cost in Phuket?**

The venue on an island — from 30,000 ฿. A real quote for 20 guests with catering, decor, sound, a generator, a photographer and staff comes to about 155,000 ฿ without the vessel. Minimum order — 15,000 ฿. The boat charter is counted separately and depends on the island and the number of guests.
**Which island to choose for a wedding?**

Coral Island — if there are many guests and nobody wants a long sail: 15–20 minutes from Chalong. Racha Yai — if the water and the frame matter more, an hour's sail. Koh Yao Noi — the quiet option in Phang Nga Bay, calmer in the rainy season. Maiton — a small private bay for 10–20 people. A wild nameless bay — if the brief is nobody around.
**What happens if the weather turns?**

From May to October the port authority sometimes closes boat departures — it depends neither on us nor on you. So we hold a reserve date and a reserve venue on the shore (a beach or a restaurant by the sea) the ceremony can move to within a few hours. Plan B is agreed at the booking stage, not on the day.
**Is there electricity and a toilet on the island?**

On wild beaches — no. Sound, light, fridges and the gear run off a 5,500 W generator (10,000 ฿); the toilet is a mobile cabin. Settled islands such as Koh Yao Noi have infrastructure, and that is one reason to choose them.
**Is a permit needed for a ceremony on an island?**

It depends on the island. Some islands around Phuket are in marine national parks: there is an entry fee per person, visiting hours and a requirement to clear the event, and some parks close for the season. We check the status of the particular island for your date before the booking.
**Does an island ceremony register the marriage?**

No, it is symbolic. Legal registration in Thailand happens at the amphur with documents legalised through the embassy and the foreign ministry and has nothing to do with the venue. Most couples register at home and hold the ceremony in Phuket.
**What time is best for the ceremony?**

60–90 minutes before sunset. In Phuket the sun sets around 18:20 in December and around 18:50 in June, and there is almost no dusk — half an hour after sunset there is nothing left to photograph. The banquet after the ceremony runs under our light.
