This is the format almost everyone who comes to marry in Thailand pictures. It is also the format with the widest gap between the picture and the reality, so below we write both.

## Which beaches suit and why

### Nai Thon

Our default choice. A wide strip of sand, few people even in high season, the sun sets right behind the couple. The nearest parking is a couple of minutes on foot — it matters when the guests are over sixty.

### Layan

Quieter and greener; the trees give shade for seating the guests before the ceremony. Good for morning and daytime ceremonies when the sunset is not the point.

### Nai Harn

The most beautiful sunset in the south and the biggest crowd. We work here on weekdays and outside peak season, otherwise there are holidaymakers in the frame.

### The northern beaches — Mai Khao, Natai

Long empty strips, almost nobody, but further from [Patong](https://www.doubledproject.com/en/locations/patong) and the [hotels](https://www.doubledproject.com/en/locations/hotels): allow an hour for the guests' transfer and remember the catering travels as long.

### A restaurant's beach

From 20,000 ฿ and the only way to real privacy on the sand: the grounds are private, there are no strangers, the kitchen and toilets are beside you, and the evening can move into the hall if it rains.

## What to know before choosing a beach

- **Beaches in Thailand are public and cannot be closed.** Not for any money. On a Saturday in high season there will be strangers in the frame — not an organiser's failing but the law. If privacy is the point, look at a [restaurant](https://www.doubledproject.com/en/locations/restaurants)'s beach, an island or a [villa](https://www.doubledproject.com/en/locations/villas) with its own way to the sea.
- **Sound is limited.** We bring a battery set so the vows are heard without a cable across the whole beach and without a [generator](https://www.doubledproject.com/en/catalogue/product/generator) beside the guests.
- **Tables and heavy decor on sand need bases.** [Stands](https://www.doubledproject.com/en/catalogue/product/stands-dj-stand) and arches without platforms sink, and it shows in the photographs.
- **The tide.** We check the tide table against the date and time — on some beaches at low tide there are two hundred metres of wet sand to the water, and the picture is not the one you wanted.
- **Sunset moves.** In December the sun sets around 18:20, in June closer to 18:50. We count the ceremony's timing back from the sunset, not from a convenient hour.

We count back from the sunset: in December the sun sets around 18:20, in June closer to 18:50. The ceremony usually starts an hour to an hour and a half before, so the vows fall in soft light rather than against the sun.
**What if it rains?**

From May to October we plan a covered option in advance — a restaurant hall by the beach or a [marquee](https://www.doubledproject.com/en/catalogue/product/tent). Rain in Phuket is heavy and short, so most often the ceremony simply moves forty minutes.
**Will a beach wedding be official?**

No, it is a symbolic ceremony with a celebrant and has no legal force. Almost every couple registers the marriage at home. An official registration in Thailand is a separate procedure through the amphur with documents from the embassy.
**How many guests fit a beach ceremony?**

Comfortably up to 40 people. More already needs a restaurant's beach or a villa: on a public beach there is nowhere to put a kitchen, toilets and parking for such a group.
